Runs entirely in your browser. Your data is never uploaded.

What is Strip HTML Tags?

Converts HTML source code into readable plain text. Tags are removed, entities such as &amp; are decoded, script and style blocks are dropped, and block elements like paragraphs, headings, list items, table rows and <br> become line breaks so the text keeps its structure.

How to use Strip HTML Tags

  1. Paste HTML source into the Input box.
  2. Keep Keep paragraphs and line breaks on for structured text, or turn it off to get everything on one line.
  3. Copy or download the plain text from Output.

Example

Input
<h1>Title</h1><p>Hello <b>world</b> &amp; you</p><script>alert(1)</script>
Output
Title

Hello world & you

When to use Strip HTML Tags

Use it to get the text out of e-mail templates, CMS exports, scraped pages or rich-text fields. It does not keep links' URLs or image alt text; use Extract Links for URLs, and an HTML-to-Markdown converter if you need formatting preserved.

How Strip HTML Tags works

The HTML is parsed with the browser's DOMParser into an inert document – scripts are not executed and nothing is loaded. <script>, <style>, <noscript>, <template> and <head> are removed. The tool then walks the DOM: text nodes are added with whitespace collapsed (except inside <pre>), <br> adds a line break, block elements add line breaks before and after, list items get a • bullet and table cells are separated by tabs. Finally lines are trimmed and runs of blank lines reduced to one.

Common Use Cases

  • Extracting readable text from an HTML e-mail
  • Cleaning CMS or WYSIWYG output before reuse
  • Getting text from saved web page source for analysis
  • Converting HTML snippets to plain text for SMS or push notifications

FAQs

Is it safe to paste untrusted HTML?

Yes. DOMParser creates an inert document: scripts do not run, images and styles are not loaded, and only text is read from it.

Are HTML entities decoded?

Yes. &amp;, &lt;, &nbsp;, &#39; and every other entity are converted to the actual characters.

What happens to links?

The link text is kept and the URL is dropped. Use Extract Links to list the URLs.
