IP Address Lookup and Geolocation

Find the approximate location, ISP, organization and ASN of an IPv4 or IPv6 address, or see your own public IP. Private addresses are recognised locally.

Leave empty and press "My IP" to see the public address you are browsing from.

This tool sends your query to an external service to get live data. Data source: ipwho.is, with ipapi.co as a fallback. IP geolocation is approximate (often only city- or region-level) and VPNs or mobile networks may show a different location.

What is IP Address Lookup?

This tool shows where an IP address is registered and roughly located: country, region, city, coordinates, time zone, ISP, organization and autonomous system number. Leave the field empty and press "My IP" to see the public address your browser is using.

How to use IP Address Lookup

  1. Enter an IPv4 or IPv6 address, or leave the field empty.
  2. Press Look up (or My IP for your own address).
  3. Read country, region, city, coordinates, time zone, ISP, organization, ASN and domain.
  4. For private or reserved addresses the tool explains that they have no public location instead of querying the service.

Example

Input
8.8.8.8
Output
United States (US) · ISP Google LLC · ASN AS15169 · domain google.com

City and coordinates come from the geolocation database and may change over time.

When to use IP Address Lookup

Use it to see which provider or country a visitor, attacker or server IP belongs to, or to confirm your VPN is working. IP geolocation is approximate – often only city or region level, sometimes the ISP's headquarters – so never use it to locate a person or as proof of identity.

How IP Address Lookup works

The address is validated in the browser with ipaddr.js. Private, loopback, link-local, CGNAT and other non-public ranges are answered locally without any request. Public addresses are sent to the ipwho.is geolocation API directly from your browser, with ipapi.co as a fallback when ipwho.is is rate-limited or unavailable; the response fields are displayed and the country name is localized with the browser's Intl.DisplayNames.

Common Use Cases

  • Check which ISP and ASN an IP in your server logs belongs to before blocking it.
  • Confirm that your VPN or proxy exit IP shows the expected country.
  • Identify whether an address belongs to a cloud provider such as Google or AWS.
  • Find the time zone of a remote server's public IP.

Security Note

Looking up an IP sends it to ipwho.is (or ipapi.co as a fallback). Do not look up addresses you are not allowed to share with a third party.

FAQs

How accurate is IP geolocation?

Country is usually right; city is often wrong by tens of kilometres, and mobile, satellite or VPN connections can appear in a different region entirely.

Which service provides the data?

ipwho.is, or ipapi.co as a fallback. Your browser sends the IP you enter (or, for "My IP", nothing but the request itself) directly to that service.

Why does 192.168.x.x show no location?

It is a private RFC 1918 address that exists only inside local networks. Millions of networks use the same addresses, so they have no public owner or location.
