When to use Markdown to HTML
Use it to turn README text, blog drafts or documentation into HTML for a CMS or email. The raw HTML output is not sanitized – if the Markdown comes from untrusted users, sanitize the HTML on your server before publishing it.
How Markdown to HTML works
Markdown is converted with marked, a CommonMark-compatible parser, with GFM extensions when enabled. The raw HTML output is exactly what marked generates, including any HTML you wrote inside the Markdown. The preview is passed through DOMPurify first, which removes scripts, event handlers such as onerror and other dangerous markup before it is displayed.
Common Use Cases
- Convert a README section into HTML for a website
- Prepare HTML for a CMS that has no Markdown support
- Check how GitHub-style tables render
- Write HTML email content in Markdown
FAQs
Is the output HTML safe?
The preview is sanitized with DOMPurify. The raw HTML is returned unchanged so you can see what marked produced; sanitize it yourself before publishing untrusted content.
Which Markdown flavor is used?
CommonMark via marked, plus GitHub Flavored Markdown extensions when the GFM option is on.
Why are my single line breaks ignored?
In standard Markdown a single newline is a space. Enable Line break = <br> to keep them, like GitHub comments do.
