Random PIN Generator
Generate random 3–12 digit PINs with a secure RNG and optionally skip weak PINs like 1234, 1111, 1212, common PINs and years. Shows exact entropy.
1,000,000 possible PINs minus 1,100 weak ones; every remaining PIN is equally likely (19.9 bits).
A PIN is only safe where the number of attempts is limited (for example a card or phone that locks after a few wrong tries). Never use one as an online password.
What is Random PIN Generator?
This tool generates numeric PIN codes of 3 to 12 digits using the browser's cryptographically secure random generator. It can skip PINs that people pick most often, such as repeated digits, runs like 1234 and the most common 4-digit PINs, and tells you the exact entropy of the result.
How to use Random PIN Generator
- Enter the PIN length (digits), for example 4 or 6.
- Set How many PINs you want.
- Keep Skip weak PINs on to exclude repeats, runs, the top-20 4-digit PINs and years 1900–2099.
- Click Regenerate and copy the PIN you want.
Example
Length 6, 3 PINs, skip weak PINs
815616 251618 871603 (19.9 bits)
Random output; yours will differ.
When to use Random PIN Generator
Use it for phone or SIM unlock codes, card PINs you are allowed to choose, door codes and app lock screens, places where attempts are limited by lockouts. Do not use a PIN as a password for an online account; short numeric codes are only safe behind attempt limits.
How Random PIN Generator works
Each digit is drawn uniformly with crypto.getRandomValues and rejection sampling. With weak PINs skipped, any PIN that is a repeated block (1111, 1212, 123123), a run of +1 or −1 steps (1234, 9876), one of the 20 most common 4-digit PINs from the DataGenetics study or a 4-digit year 1900–2099 is rejected and redrawn, so the remaining PINs stay equally likely. The entropy is log2(10^n − weak), with the weak count computed exactly (Möbius inversion for repeated blocks plus the run and list counts).
Common Use Cases
- Choosing a new SIM or phone unlock PIN
- Setting a door or alarm code
- Creating a card or app PIN that is not a birthday or 1234
- Generating one-off numeric codes for testing
Security Note
Never write the PIN on the card or device it protects, and do not reuse it as a banking or phone PIN elsewhere.
FAQs
How secure is a 4-digit PIN?
There are only 10,000 4-digit PINs (13.3 bits). It is fine only where a device locks or wipes after a few wrong attempts.
Why skip years and common PINs?
Attackers try them first: studies of leaked PINs show 1234, 1111, 0000 and birth years account for a large share of real PINs.
Does skipping weak PINs reduce security?
It removes a small number of options (314 of the 10,000 4-digit PINs) but those are exactly the ones guessed first, so practical security improves.
