Assumptions & method
  • Generic progressive tax: each part of the income is taxed at its bracket's rate. Not an official calculator for any country.

What is Tax Calculator?

A generic income tax calculator: enter your income, deductions and either a set of progressive tax brackets or a single flat rate. It shows the tax, effective and marginal rates, after-tax income and how much tax falls in each bracket. The default brackets are an example only – replace them with your country's official rates.

How to use Tax Calculator

  1. Enter your Annual income and any Deductions / allowances.
  2. Choose Progressive brackets or Flat rate.
  3. Edit the brackets: each row is an upper limit and its rate; leave the last limit empty for no limit.
  4. Read the total tax and the bracket breakdown.

Example

Input
Income 60,000; brackets 0% to 10,000, 10% to 40,000, 20% to 100,000, 30% above
Output
Tax 7,000.00; effective 11.67%; marginal 20%

When to use Tax Calculator

Use it to understand how progressive taxation works or to apply your country's published brackets. It is not an official calculator for any country and does not know credits, surcharges, social contributions or filing rules.

How Tax Calculator works

Taxable income = income − deductions (not below zero). With progressive brackets, each slice of income between two limits is taxed only at that bracket's rate: tax = Σ (min(income, upper) − lower) × rate. The marginal rate is the rate of the highest bracket that income reaches; the effective rate is tax ÷ taxable income. Brackets must have increasing limits.

Common Use Cases

  • Applying official tax brackets to an income
  • Explaining marginal vs effective tax rate
  • Comparing a flat and a progressive system
  • Estimating tax on a raise

FAQs

Does moving into a higher bracket tax all my income at that rate?

No. Only the part of the income above the bracket limit is taxed at the higher rate.

Which brackets should I use?

Your tax authority's published brackets for the year, for example the IRS tables in the US.

Why is my real tax different?

Real systems add credits, allowances, social contributions and local taxes that this generic tool does not know.
