Binary to Text Converter

Decode binary code back to readable text. Accepts bytes separated by spaces, commas or new lines, pads short groups and validates UTF-8. Free, runs locally.

Spaces, commas and line breaks between bytes are ignored. Groups shorter than 8 bits are left-padded with zeros; ungrouped input must be a multiple of 8 bits.

What is Binary to Text?

Paste a sequence of 0s and 1s and get the text it encodes. The bytes are decoded as UTF-8, so accented letters, non-Latin scripts and emoji come out correctly, and invalid byte sequences are reported instead of producing garbage.

How to use Binary to Text

  1. Paste binary into Binary (0 and 1); bytes may be separated by spaces, commas or line breaks.
  2. Read the decoded text in Decoded text (UTF-8).
  3. If an error appears, check for stray characters or a missing digit.

Example

Input
01001000 01101001
Output
Hi

When to use Binary to Text

Use it to read binary messages, homework answers or byte dumps. It does not decode other encodings such as UTF-16, Latin-1 or Base64 – convert those with a dedicated tool.

How Binary to Text works

Separators are stripped and every remaining character must be 0 or 1. When the input is split into groups of up to 8 digits, each group is one byte (shorter groups such as 7-bit ASCII are left-padded with zeros). Without separators the bit string is cut into 8-bit bytes and must therefore be a multiple of 8 long. The bytes are passed to TextDecoder in fatal UTF-8 mode, which rejects invalid sequences.

Common Use Cases

  • Decode a binary message from a puzzle or game
  • Check the result of a text-to-binary exercise
  • Read 7-bit ASCII binary written without leading zeros
  • Verify that a byte sequence is valid UTF-8

FAQs

Why do I get "not a whole number of bytes"?

Without separators the converter cuts the input into 8-bit bytes. If the total length is not a multiple of 8, a digit is missing or extra; add spaces between bytes so each group is read on its own.

Can it read 7-bit ASCII?

Yes, when the groups are separated, for example 1001000 1101001 decodes to Hi.

Why is my input "not valid UTF-8"?

Some byte combinations are illegal in UTF-8 (for example a lone 11111111). The tool reports this rather than showing replacement characters.
