What is Morse Code Decoder?

Translates Morse code written with dots and dashes back to text using the ITU alphabet. It is tolerant of the different symbols people use for dots and dashes and of several word separators.

How to use Morse Code Decoder

  1. Paste the Morse code into Input: letters separated by spaces, words by /, | or three spaces.
  2. Read the text in Output.
  3. If a code is not in the ITU table, it is shown as and listed in a warning.

Example

Input
... --- ... / .... . .-.. .--.
Output

When to use Morse Code Decoder

Use it for written Morse. It cannot listen to audio or decode timing from a recording.

How Morse Code Decoder works

·, • and ∙ are normalised to ., and −, –, — and _ to -. Each line is split into words on /, | or three or more spaces, then into letter codes on whitespace, and every code is looked up in the reverse ITU table.

Common Use Cases

  • Solving Morse puzzles and geocaches
  • Checking your own Morse transcription
  • Decoding messages copied from games or films
