Assumptions & method
  • The tip is calculated on the bill you enter (usually before tax). Rounding up adjusts the tip.

What is Tip Calculator?

Calculates the tip for a bill at the percentage you choose, the total, and what each person pays when the bill is split. You can round each person's share or the total up to a whole number, and the effective tip after rounding is shown.

How to use Tip Calculator

  1. Enter the Bill amount.
  2. Enter the Tip percentage or click 10%, 15%, 18%, 20% or 25%.
  3. Enter how many people to Split between and choose a Rounding option.

Example

Input
Bill 100, tip 15%, 2 people
Output
Total per person 57.50; tip 15.00; total 115.00

When to use Tip Calculator

Use it in restaurants, taxis or for any shared bill. Tipping customs differ by country; in many places service is already included in the bill.

How Tip Calculator works

Tip = bill × tip % ÷ 100 and total = bill + tip. Per person = total ÷ people. With "round up each person's share" every share is rounded up to the next whole unit and the total becomes share × people; with "round up the total" the total is rounded up first. In both cases the tip absorbs the difference, and the effective tip percentage is shown.

Common Use Cases

  • Splitting a dinner bill among friends
  • Rounding each share to avoid coins
  • Checking a suggested tip on a receipt
  • Calculating tips for delivery or services

FAQs

Should I tip on the amount before or after tax?

Etiquette guides usually suggest the pre-tax amount. Enter whichever amount you want to tip on.

How does rounding work?

Rounding always goes up, so nobody underpays, and the extra goes to the tip.

Can I split unevenly?

No, the split is equal. For uneven splits calculate each person's part separately.
