What is Image Cropper?

The Image Cropper cuts out a rectangular part of an image. Drag the crop box and its corner handles on the image, or type exact X, Y, Width and Height in pixels. Aspect ratio presets (free, original, 1:1, 4:3, 3:2, 16:9, 9:16, 4:5) lock the shape of the box.

How to use Image Cropper

  1. Drop, choose or paste an image.
  2. Pick an Aspect ratio preset, or keep Free.
  3. Drag the box to move it and its corners to resize it, or type exact pixel values.
  4. Check the result preview, choose PNG, JPEG or WebP, and download the cropped image.

Example

Input
40×20 image, crop X=20, Y=0, Width=20, Height=10
Output
20×10 PNG containing only the top-right quadrant, saved as `<name>-cropped.png`

When to use Image Cropper

Use it to remove unwanted edges, frame a subject, or meet a required aspect ratio for profile pictures, thumbnails or social media posts. To change the pixel dimensions after cropping, use the Image Resizer.

How Image Cropper works

The crop rectangle is kept in original image pixels and clamped to the image bounds. The result is produced by copying exactly that rectangle onto a new canvas with drawImage, so there is no resampling: every pixel is identical to the source. The output is encoded in the chosen format.

Common Use Cases

  • Cropping a portrait to a 1:1 square avatar.
  • Making a 16:9 thumbnail from a wide screenshot.
  • Cutting a 9:16 vertical image for stories.
  • Extracting an exact region of a screenshot by pixel coordinates.

Security Note

Images are decoded, processed and encoded locally in your browser with the Canvas API. Nothing is uploaded to a server. The exported image does not contain the original EXIF metadata.

FAQs

Does cropping reduce image quality?

No resampling happens, so pixels are copied unchanged. Saving as JPEG or WebP applies lossy compression at the quality you choose; PNG is lossless.

Can I crop to an exact pixel size?

Yes. Type the width and height in pixels; with an aspect preset active, the other dimension follows the ratio.

Is EXIF orientation handled?

Yes. Photos are displayed and cropped the way they appear, with the camera rotation already applied.
