What is QR Code Generator?
Create QR codes for a URL, plain Text, Wi-Fi network, Contact (vCard), Email, SMS or Phone number. The code is drawn in your browser with the open-source qrcode library, so nothing you type is sent to a server, and you can download it as a PNG image or a scalable SVG.
How to use QR Code Generator
- Pick a Content type and fill in its fields (for Wi-Fi: network name, password and security).
- Choose the Error correction level, Size (px), Margin and the Foreground / Background colors.
- Check the Encoded content box to see exactly what the QR code contains.
- Click Download PNG or Download SVG.
Example
Wi-Fi: network name Home;Net, password secret, WPA
WIFI:T:WPA;S:Home\;Net;P:secret;;
The semicolon in the network name is escaped so phones read it correctly.
When to use QR Code Generator
Use it for posters, business cards, restaurant menus, guest Wi-Fi signs and product packaging. Use level H if you plan to put a logo over the code or print it on rough surfaces. A static QR code cannot be edited or tracked after printing; if you need to change the destination later, encode a short URL that you control.
How QR Code Generator works
First the form is turned into the text format phones understand: WIFI:T:WPA;S:<ssid>;P:<password>;; for Wi-Fi (with \ ; , : " escaped), a vCard 3.0 block for contacts, mailto: with URL-encoded subject and body for email, SMSTO:number:message for SMS and tel: for phone numbers. URLs without a scheme get https://. The text is then encoded as a QR code (ISO/IEC 18004): the library picks the smallest version that fits, adds Reed–Solomon error-correction codewords for the chosen level (L 7%, M 15%, Q 25%, H 30% recoverable) and applies the best mask pattern.
Common Use Cases
- Sharing guest Wi-Fi without spelling out the password
- Adding a vCard QR code to a business card
- Linking a printed flyer or poster to a web page
- Pre-filling an email or SMS for feedback or support
- Creating SVG QR codes for high-resolution print
Security Note
Anyone who scans a Wi-Fi QR code can read the password in plain text. Only display it where you would also show the password, ideally on a guest network.
FAQs
Do these QR codes expire?
No. The content is stored directly in the code, so it works as long as the encoded URL or data is valid. There is no redirect service in between.
Which error correction level should I choose?
M (15%) is a good default. Choose Q or H for codes that may get dirty or partly covered (for example by a logo); choose L to keep codes with a lot of text smaller.
PNG or SVG?
SVG is vector and stays sharp at any size, ideal for print. PNG is best for websites, documents and messaging apps.
Is my Wi-Fi password sent anywhere?
No. The QR code is generated entirely in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
