sitemap.xml
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<urlset xmlns="http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9">
  <url>
    <loc>https://example.com/</loc>
  </url>
  <url>
    <loc>https://example.com/about</loc>
  </url>
  <url>
    <loc>https://example.com/blog?page=2&amp;sort=new</loc>
  </url>
</urlset>
Generates a sitemap following the sitemaps.org 0.9 protocol. Google ignores changefreq and priority and only uses lastmod when it is accurate. Upload the file to your site and reference it in robots.txt or Search Console.

What is Sitemap Generator?

This sitemap generator converts a list of URLs into a sitemap.xml file that follows the sitemaps.org 0.9 protocol used by Google, Bing and other search engines. You can add the same lastmod date, changefreq and priority to all entries; duplicates and invalid lines are removed and reported.

How to use Sitemap Generator

  1. Paste absolute page URLs, one per line.
  2. Choose lastmod (omit, today or a specific date), changefreq and priority, or leave them omitted.
  3. Check the count, removed duplicates and any skipped invalid lines.
  4. Copy or download sitemap.xml, upload it to your site and reference it in robots.txt or Search Console.

Example

Input
https://example.com/
https://example.com/about
https://example.com/blog?page=2&sort=new
Output
3 URLs; the third becomes <loc>https://example.com/blog?page=2&amp;sort=new</loc>

When to use Sitemap Generator

Use it for small and medium static sites or when you have a URL export from a crawler or CMS. It does not crawl your site to discover pages; large or frequently changing sites should generate sitemaps automatically from their CMS or build process.

How Sitemap Generator works

Each line is parsed with the WHATWG URL parser; only http and https URLs are kept and normalized. Duplicates (after normalization) are removed. Each URL is XML-escaped (& → &amp;, < → &lt;, quotes) inside <loc>, and the optional fields are added per entry inside a <urlset> with the sitemaps.org namespace. Entries beyond 50,000 are dropped with a warning, per the protocol limit.

Common Use Cases

  • Create a sitemap for a hand-made static website.
  • Turn a crawler's URL export into a submission-ready sitemap.
  • Build a separate sitemap for a new section of a site.
  • Fix a sitemap that broke because of unescaped & characters.

FAQs

Do changefreq and priority matter?

Google ignores both. It uses lastmod only when it is consistently accurate. Other search engines may use them as hints.

How many URLs can one sitemap contain?

Up to 50,000 URLs and 50 MB uncompressed. Larger sites need several sitemaps listed in a sitemap index file.

Should I include non-canonical URLs?

No. List only canonical, indexable URLs that return 200.
