Phone Number Validator and Formatter

Validate phone numbers for any country with Google's libphonenumber data: valid or possible, mobile/landline type, E.164, international and national formats.

International format (+…) or a national number together with the default country.

Validated locally with libphonenumber-js using Google’s libphonenumber metadata. A valid number matches the official numbering plan; it may still be unassigned or disconnected.

What is Phone Number Validator?

This tool checks whether a phone number is valid for its country's numbering plan and formats it in E.164, international, national and tel: URI (RFC 3966) formats. It also identifies the line type – mobile, landline, toll-free, premium rate, VoIP and more – where the numbering plan allows it.

How to use Phone Number Validator

  1. Enter the number in international format (starting with +), or a national number.
  2. For national numbers, choose the default country.
  3. Read the verdict (valid, possible length only, or invalid), country and line type.
  4. Copy the E.164 format for databases and SMS APIs or the national format for display.

Example

Input
0912 345 678 (default country: Vietnam)
Output
Valid · Vietnam (VN) · Mobile · E.164 +84912345678 · international +84 912 345 678 · national 0912 345 678

+1 650 253 0000 gives +16502530000 and (650) 253-0000.

When to use Phone Number Validator

Use it to normalize phone numbers to E.164 before storing them, validate form input or format numbers for display. A valid result means the number fits the official plan – it may still be unassigned, ported or disconnected, and the tool cannot tell who owns it.

How Phone Number Validator works

Validation uses libphonenumber-js with the full ("max") metadata derived from Google's libphonenumber. The number is parsed into country calling code and national number, then matched against the country's number patterns for each line type; a "possible" number has a plausible length but matches no assigned pattern. The library is loaded on demand and runs entirely in your browser.

Common Use Cases

  • Convert local numbers like 0912 345 678 to +84912345678 for an SMS gateway.
  • Check whether a number is mobile before sending an SMS.
  • Clean phone numbers in a CRM export to one format.
  • Format international numbers for an invoice or website.

FAQs

What is E.164?

The ITU standard format: a + followed by the country code and national number with no spaces, up to 15 digits, e.g. +442079460958. Most APIs expect it.

Why does a US number show "landline or mobile"?

In the North American Numbering Plan, mobile and fixed numbers share the same ranges, so the type cannot be determined from the number alone.

Is the number sent to a server?

No. Validation runs locally with the bundled metadata.
