What is Meta Tag Generator?
This generator writes the essential <head> tags of a web page from a simple form: charset, responsive viewport, <title>, meta description, optional keywords and author, canonical link, robots directives and theme color. Character counters show whether the title and description are in the commonly recommended length range.
How to use Meta Tag Generator
- Enter the page title and meta description and watch the character counters.
- Add the canonical URL and, if needed, author, keywords and theme color.
- Untick "Allow indexing" or "Allow following links" to add a robots meta tag.
- Copy the generated HTML into the page's <head>.
Example
Title: Tom & Jerry · description: Classic "cartoon" · indexing off
<meta charset="UTF-8"> <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1"> <title>Tom & Jerry</title> <meta name="description" content="Classic "cartoon""> <meta name="robots" content="noindex, follow"> <link rel="canonical" href="https://example.com/">
When to use Meta Tag Generator
Use it when building a new page or template and you want correct, escaped head tags quickly. It does not check your existing page; for previews of how the title and description look in Google use the SERP Preview tool, and for social cards the Open Graph or Twitter Card generators.
How Meta Tag Generator works
Values are inserted into the tags with HTML escaping (&, ", <, > become entities) so quotes in a description cannot break the markup. Empty fields are omitted. A robots meta tag is only written when indexing or following is disallowed, because index, follow is the default. Keywords are trimmed and re-joined with commas.
Common Use Cases
- Create head tags for a static landing page.
- Add noindex to a staging or thank-you page.
- Generate a canonical link for a page reachable under several URLs.
- Check title and description lengths before publishing.
