Website Favicon Checker
Check which favicons a website declares, whether each icon URL and /favicon.ico actually loads (status, type, size), and if apple-touch-icon and manifest exist.
https:// is added when no scheme is given.
What is Favicon Checker?
This tool reads a page's icon declarations (rel="icon", shortcut icon, apple-touch-icon, mask-icon) and the web app manifest link, then requests each icon URL and the default /favicon.ico to confirm they really load. You get the HTTP status, content type and size of every icon and a checklist of common gaps.
How to use Favicon Checker
- Enter the website URL and press Check.
- Review the table of icon URLs with their rel/sizes, HTTP status, content type and size.
- Read the checklist: declared icon, /favicon.ico, apple-touch-icon and manifest.
When to use Favicon Checker
Use it when a favicon does not show in browser tabs, bookmarks or search results, or after changing icons. It does not render the icons and does not check image dimensions inside the file; browsers also cache favicons aggressively, so a fixed icon may take time to appear.
How Favicon Checker works
AlgoKit's Pages Function fetches the page with the same SSRF protections as the other checkers, extracts icon and manifest links from the HTML, and requests up to 8 icon URLs including /favicon.ico. Redirects on icon URLs are reported rather than followed so every request passes the private-address checks. Status, Content-Type and size (Content-Length or bytes read, up to 1 MB) are returned to your browser.
Common Use Cases
- Find out why the browser tab shows a blank icon (404 on the declared file).
- Check that /favicon.ico exists for tools and crawlers that request it directly.
- Verify an apple-touch-icon is present for iOS home screen bookmarks.
- Confirm icons are served with an image content type, not text/html.
FAQs
Do I still need /favicon.ico?
Modern browsers use the <link rel="icon"> you declare, but some tools, RSS readers and older browsers request /favicon.ico directly, so keeping one avoids 404s.
What size should an apple-touch-icon be?
180×180 px PNG covers current iPhones and iPads; iOS scales it for other sizes.
Why does Google show an old favicon?
Google recrawls favicons on its own schedule. Make sure the icon is crawlable and stable; changes can take days or weeks.
