How Time Duration Calculator works
Each time is converted to seconds since midnight. If the end time is earlier than the start time, 24 hours are added because the interval is assumed to end the next day. The intervals are summed and the break is subtracted. Decimal hours are total seconds divided by 3600; the converter multiplies decimal hours by 3600 and formats the result as h:mm:ss.

How do I calculate a shift that ends after midnight?
Just enter the times, e.g. 22:00 and 06:30. When the end is earlier than the start, the tool assumes the next day and shows ‘next day’.
What are decimal hours?
Time written as a decimal number of hours, used in payroll: 7 hours 45 minutes is 7.75 hours.
Can an interval be longer than 24 hours?
