How Public Holidays by Country works
Holidays are calculated in your browser by the open-source date-holidays library, which encodes each country's rules (fixed dates, Easter-based dates, lunar calendar dates and substitute days). Holiday names are shown in your page language when the data has a translation, otherwise in the country's language. Holidays lasting several days are listed day by day.
Common Use Cases
- Planning vacation days around public holidays
- Checking when offices in another country are closed
- Preparing a holiday calendar for a project or team
- Finding the date of moving holidays such as Easter Monday or Lunar New Year
FAQs
Where does the holiday data come from?
From the open-source date-holidays project, which is maintained by contributors for over 200 countries. It runs locally in your browser.
What is a substitute day?
When a holiday falls on a weekend, many countries give a day off on a nearby weekday instead; those days are marked as substitute days.
Why are some names not in my language?
Translations exist only for some holidays and languages; otherwise the official local name is shown.
