What is Text Rotator?

When to use Text Rotator

Use it to change the starting point of a rotation list (duty rosters, round-robin schedules), shift a string for exercises, or reorder repeating patterns. It is not a cipher: for ROT13 or Caesar ciphers use the encoding tools.

How Text Rotator works

Rotating left by k moves the first k items to the end; rotating right by k moves the last k items to the front. The step count is taken modulo the number of items, so rotating 4 lines by 5 is the same as rotating by 1. Words are split on whitespace and rejoined with single spaces; characters are grapheme clusters so emoji stay intact. Lines are rotated independently in word and character mode.

Common Use Cases

  • Moving the next person to the top of a weekly duty list
  • Creating round-robin pairings by shifting a list
  • Generating all rotations of a word for puzzles
  • Shifting column headers or repeating sequences

FAQs

What is the difference between left and right?

Left takes items from the beginning and appends them at the end; right takes items from the end and puts them at the beginning.

Is this the same as ROT13?

No. ROT13 replaces each letter with another letter; this tool only changes the order of existing lines, words or characters.

What happens with more steps than items?

The steps wrap around, so rotating by the number of items gives the original text.
