When to use Stock Profit Calculator
Use it to evaluate a closed trade or set a target price. It does not include dividends, taxes or currency conversion; for percentage-based crypto exchange fees use the Crypto Profit Calculator.
How Stock Profit Calculator works
Cost = shares × buy price + buy commission. Proceeds = shares × sell price − sell commission. Profit = proceeds − cost and return = profit ÷ cost × 100. Break-even sell price = (cost + sell commission) ÷ shares.
Common Use Cases
- Checking the result of a trade
- Setting a profit target
- Finding the break-even price after commissions
- Comparing broker fee structures
FAQs
Why is the return 19.78% and not 20%?
Commissions increase the cost and reduce proceeds, so the 10-point price move earns slightly less than 20%.
Can I calculate a loss?
Yes. A sell price below the buy price shows a negative profit labelled as loss.
Does it handle short selling?
Not directly; it models buying first and selling later.
