Calculate net take-home pay from gross pay with your own pre-tax and after-tax deductions and an income tax rate. Generic and transparent, not country-specific.
Average rate on taxable pay; take it from your payslip or tax authority.
Results
- Generic calculator: it does not know any country's tax rules. Income tax = rate × (gross − pre-tax deductions). Enter the rates from your payslip.
What is Payroll Calculator?
Turns gross pay into net pay using deductions you define: each deduction is a percentage of gross or a fixed amount, taken before or after income tax. You enter the income tax rate yourself, so the tool works for any country without pretending to know its tax rules.
How to use Payroll Calculator
- Enter Gross pay per pay period and the Pay frequency.
- Enter the Income tax rate from your payslip or tax authority.
- Edit the deductions list: name, value, % of gross or fixed amount, and before or after tax.
- Read the net pay per period and per year.
Example
Gross 5,000 monthly, tax 20%, retirement 5% pre-tax, health 200 pre-tax, social security 6.2% after tax
Net pay 3,330.00; income tax 910.00; pre-tax deductions 450.00
When to use Payroll Calculator
Use it to check a payslip, compare offers or see the effect of contributing more to a retirement plan. It does not compute country-specific tax tables, caps or credits; use your tax authority's calculator for official figures.
How Payroll Calculator works
Pre-tax deductions are subtracted from gross pay to give taxable pay. Income tax = taxable pay × rate. After-tax deductions are then subtracted. Net pay = gross − pre-tax deductions − income tax − after-tax deductions, and the yearly figure multiplies by the number of pay periods (52, 26, 24, 12 or 1).
Common Use Cases
- Checking a payslip
- Seeing how a pension contribution changes net pay
- Estimating take-home pay for a job offer
- Budgeting with net income
FAQs
Why enter the tax rate myself?
Payroll tax rules differ by country, state and personal situation. An average rate from your payslip gives a far more accurate result than a guessed table.
What is a pre-tax deduction?
A deduction that reduces taxable pay, such as many retirement plan contributions. It lowers the income tax.
Can I remove all deductions?
Yes, remove every row to calculate net pay with income tax only.
