Running Pace Calculator
Calculate running pace, finish time or distance from the other two, in km or miles, with speed in km/h and mph and finish times for 5K, 10K, half and marathon.
h:mm:ss or mm:ss
Results
Finish times at this pace
| Race | Time |
|---|---|
| 5K | 0:25:00 |
| 10K | 0:50:00 |
| Half marathon | 1:45:29 |
| Marathon | 3:30:59 |
- Pace = time ÷ distance. Race times assume the same pace for the whole distance.
What is Running Pace Calculator?
Solves any one of pace, time and distance from the other two. It shows pace per kilometre and per mile, speed in km/h and mph, and the finish times for 5K, 10K, half marathon and marathon at the same pace.
How to use Running Pace Calculator
- Choose what to Calculate: pace, time or distance.
- Enter the known values: distance (km or miles, or click a race preset), time as h:mm:ss and/or pace as mm:ss.
- Read the result, both paces, speed and race predictions.
Example
10 km in 50:00
Pace 5:00 /km (8:03 /mi), speed 12 km/h (7.46 mph); marathon at this pace 3:30:59
When to use Running Pace Calculator
Use it to plan race pacing, convert between min/km and min/mile, or check training runs. For realistic predictions of a longer race from a shorter one, use a fatigue-adjusted model (such as Riegel's formula) instead of the even-pace table.
How Running Pace Calculator works
Pace = time ÷ distance, time = pace × distance and distance = time ÷ pace, working internally in seconds and kilometres (1 mile = 1.609344 km). Speed = distance ÷ time. Times are rounded to whole seconds for display. Race predictions simply apply the same pace to 5, 10, 21.0975 and 42.195 km; they do not model fatigue over longer distances.
Common Use Cases
- Finding the pace needed for a sub-50 10K
- Converting min/mile to min/km
- Planning marathon splits
- Checking treadmill speed in km/h or mph
FAQs
How do I enter times?
Use h:mm:ss (1:45:00) or mm:ss (50:00). A plain number is read as minutes.
What is the marathon distance?
42.195 km (26.2 miles); a half marathon is 21.0975 km.
Why does my GPS watch show a different pace?
GPS distance is often slightly longer or shorter than the official course, which changes the measured pace.
