Assumptions & method
  • Monthly compounding at the expected annual return ÷ 12. Inflation adjustment divides by (1 + inflation)^years. Returns are not guaranteed.

What is Investment Calculator?

Projects how an investment grows with a starting amount and a fixed monthly contribution at an expected annual return, then shows the result both in future money and adjusted for inflation. A yearly table shows contributions, growth and balance.

How to use Investment Calculator

  1. Enter the Initial amount and Monthly contribution.
  2. Enter the Expected annual return and the number of Years.
  3. Choose whether contributions are made at the start or end of each month and optionally an Inflation rate.
  4. Read the future value, total contributions, growth and inflation-adjusted value.

Example

Input
10,000 initial, 500 per month, 7% for 20 years, no inflation
Output
Future value 300,850.72; contributions 130,000.00

When to use Investment Calculator

Use it for retirement accounts, index-fund plans and SIPs to see the effect of time and contribution size. Market returns vary year to year, so the projection is an illustration, not a forecast.

How Investment Calculator works

Growth is compounded monthly at the expected annual return ÷ 12: FV = P(1 + r)^n + C × ((1 + r)^n − 1) ÷ r, multiplied by (1 + r) for start-of-month contributions. The inflation-adjusted value divides the future value by (1 + inflation)^years. Each table row is computed at the end of that year.

Common Use Cases

  • Planning a monthly investing habit
  • Seeing how much growth comes from returns vs deposits
  • Showing the effect of inflation on long-term goals
  • Comparing a 5% and a 7% expected return

FAQs

What return should I assume?

Use a conservative long-term figure for your asset mix. Historical stock market averages are higher than bond or savings returns but come with large swings.

Why show an inflation-adjusted value?

It expresses the future amount in today's purchasing power, which is easier to compare with current prices.

Are taxes and fees included?

No. Use a return net of fees, and remember that taxes on gains reduce the final amount.
