What is GIF Maker?

The GIF Maker turns a series of still images into an animated GIF. Add frames by dropping, choosing or pasting images, reorder or remove them, set the delay per frame, whether the animation loops forever, once or a set number of times, the output width, and how frames with a different shape are fitted.

How to use GIF Maker

  1. Drop, choose or paste two or more images; they become frames in that order.
  2. Reorder with the arrow buttons or remove frames with ✕.
  3. Set Delay per frame, GIF width, Looping, how odd-shaped frames fit, and the Background color.
  4. Click Create GIF, preview the animation and download animation.gif.

Example

Input
Two 40×20 PNG frames, default settings
Output
40×20 animated GIF (file starts with GIF89a) with 2 frames, 500 ms each, looping forever

When to use GIF Maker

Use it for simple animations, step-by-step tutorials, product demos or memes made from a few images. GIF is limited to 256 colors per frame and files grow quickly, so for long or photographic animations a video format (MP4/WebM) is usually far smaller.

How GIF Maker works

Each frame is resized to the output size (the height follows the first frame’s aspect ratio), fitted by padding or cropping, and composited on the background color. It is then quantized to a 256-color palette and LZW-encoded with the gifenc library. The delay is stored per frame in hundredths of a second, and the loop count is written in the NETSCAPE2.0 application extension (0 = forever).

Common Use Cases

  • Animating a sequence of UI screenshots for a tutorial.
  • Creating a looping product image carousel.
  • Making a simple frame-by-frame animation from drawings.
  • Combining photos into a short animated greeting.

Security Note

Images are decoded, processed and encoded locally in your browser with the Canvas API. Nothing is uploaded to a server.

FAQs

How many frames can I add?

Up to 200 frames, with a maximum output width of 1024 px. Large GIFs take longer to encode and produce big files.

Why do my photos look banded?

GIF stores at most 256 colors per frame, so smooth gradients are approximated. This is a limitation of the GIF format.

Does it keep transparency?

No. Frames are placed on the background color you choose, which avoids the jagged edges of GIF’s 1-bit transparency.
