Favicon Generator

Create a favicon from letters, emoji or an image: multi-size favicon.ico, 16–512 px PNGs, Apple touch icon, web manifest and the HTML link tags. All in-browser.

Source

Up to 3 characters, e.g. "A", "AK" or "🚀".

What is Favicon Generator?

Generate a complete favicon set for your website from letters or an emoji (with your colors and shape) or from an image. You get a multi-size favicon.ico (16, 32 and 48 px), PNG icons in 16, 32, 48, 180 (Apple touch icon), 192 and 512 px, a site.webmanifest and the HTML <link> tags to paste into your <head>.

How to use Favicon Generator

  1. Choose the Source: Text or emoji, or Image (a square image works best).
  2. Set the Shape, Background and Text color, and the App name for the manifest.
  3. Click Download favicon.ico and download the PNG files you need from the previews.
  4. Copy the HTML for the <head> and the site.webmanifest, and put all files in your site's root folder.

Example

Input
Text "A", Rounded, Background #4f46e5
Output
<link rel="icon" href="/favicon.ico" sizes="48x48">
<link rel="icon" type="image/png" sizes="32x32" href="/favicon-32x32.png">
<link rel="icon" type="image/png" sizes="16x16" href="/favicon-16x16.png">
<link rel="apple-touch-icon" sizes="180x180" href="/apple-touch-icon.png">
<link rel="manifest" href="/site.webmanifest">

Plus favicon.ico (16, 32, 48 px) and six PNG files.

When to use Favicon Generator

Use it for new websites, side projects, internal tools and documentation sites. If you have a detailed logo, design simplified versions for 16 and 32 px, because fine details disappear at those sizes. Use an SVG favicon in addition if you want a sharp icon that adapts to dark mode.

How Favicon Generator works

Each size is drawn on a separate canvas: the shape is filled with the background color and up to three characters are centered and scaled to the icon size, or the image is center-cropped to a square and resized with high-quality smoothing. Every canvas is exported as PNG. The .ico file is assembled byte by byte: a 6-byte ICONDIR header, one 16-byte directory entry per size (width, height, 32 bpp, data size and offset) and the PNG images embedded after it — the PNG-in-ICO format supported by all current browsers and Windows Vista and later. The 180 px Apple touch icon is always square and opaque because iOS rounds the corners itself.

Common Use Cases

  • Creating a letter or emoji favicon for a side project in seconds
  • Generating all icon sizes from a square logo
  • Adding an Apple touch icon and web manifest for home-screen installs
  • Producing a real multi-size favicon.ico for legacy browsers

FAQs

Do I still need favicon.ico?

Browsers request /favicon.ico automatically, and some tools and RSS readers only look there, so it is still worth providing alongside the PNG icons.

Why does my favicon not update?

Browsers cache favicons aggressively. Hard-refresh, open the icon URL directly, or add a version query string to the link tags.

Is my image uploaded?

No. All icons and the .ico file are created in your browser.
