What is ROT13 Encoder?

Applies the ROT13 letter rotation and its variants. ROT13 shifts every Latin letter 13 places, so the same operation both encodes and decodes. ROT47 rotates all printable ASCII characters (! to ~) by 47.

How to use ROT13 Encoder

  1. Enter text in Input.
  2. Choose the Variant: ROT13 (letters), ROT5 (digits), ROT18 (letters and digits) or ROT47 (all printable ASCII).
  3. The rotated text appears in Output; paste it back in to undo.

Example

Output
Uryyb, Jbeyq!

ROT47 gives w6==@[ (@C=5P

When to use ROT13 Encoder

Use ROT13 to hide spoilers, puzzle answers or punchlines from a casual glance. It is not encryption and must never be used to protect data.

How ROT13 Encoder works

ROT13 maps A–Z and a–z to the letter 13 positions later, wrapping around (A↔N). ROT5 does the same for 0–9 with a shift of 5, ROT18 combines both, and ROT47 maps code points 33–126 with 33 + ((c − 33 + 47) mod 94). All other characters, including accented letters and emoji, are kept.

Common Use Cases

  • Hiding spoilers in forums and newsletters
  • Solving CTF and geocaching puzzles
  • Teaching the Caesar cipher
  • Obfuscating example email addresses in text

FAQs

How do I decode ROT13?

Apply ROT13 again – shifting by 13 twice is a full 26-letter cycle.

Why are digits unchanged?

ROT13 only rotates letters. Choose ROT18 or ROT47 to rotate digits too.

Is ROT13 secure?

No. It has no key and is trivially reversible.
