Quoted-Printable Encoder / Decoder
Encode or decode quoted-printable email text per RFC 2045: =XX escapes, soft line breaks at 76 characters, UTF-8 or ISO-8859-1 character sets.

What is Quoted Printable?
Converts text to and from quoted-printable, the MIME content transfer encoding used in emails. Readable ASCII stays as it is, other bytes become =XX, and long lines are split with soft line breaks (= at line end).
How to use Quoted Printable
- Choose Encode or Decode.
- Select the Character set: UTF-8 (default) or ISO-8859-1.
- Paste text or the quoted-printable email body into Input.
- Copy the result from Output.
Example
Café — naïve ✓
Caf=C3=A9 =E2=80=94 na=C3=AFve =E2=9C=93=20
The trailing space is encoded as =20 because it ends the line.
When to use Quoted Printable
Use it to read or produce email bodies and MIME parts that use Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable. For binary attachments Base64 is the right choice.
How Quoted Printable works
Encoding converts each line to bytes in the chosen charset. Printable ASCII (33–126) except = is kept; spaces and tabs are kept unless they end a line; everything else is written as = plus two uppercase hex digits. Lines longer than 76 characters are broken with a soft break, never inside an =XX sequence. Decoding removes soft breaks and trailing whitespace, converts =XX back to bytes and decodes them with the charset. Line breaks are shown as \n (emails use CRLF).
Common Use Cases
- Reading raw email source with =C3=A9-style text
- Debugging newsletters with broken accents
- Preparing MIME parts for test emails
- Converting legacy ISO-8859-1 emails to readable text
FAQs
Why do I see =C3=A9 instead of é?
That is the UTF-8 encoding of é in quoted-printable. Decoding with the UTF-8 charset restores it.
What is a soft line break?
An = at the end of a line means the line continues; it is removed when decoding so long lines can be transported within the 76-character limit.
My decoded text has characters.
The email was probably written in another charset. Try ISO-8859-1.
