Currency Converter (ECB Reference Rates)

Convert between 30 major currencies with the latest European Central Bank reference rates and their date. Only the currency code is sent, never the amount.

This tool sends your query to an external service to get live data.Rates come from the Frankfurter API (European Central Bank reference rates, updated on working days around 16:00 CET). Only the selected base currency code is sent — never the amount; the conversion is calculated in your browser. Not suitable for trading or bank transfer quotes.

What is Currency Converter?

Convert an amount between 30 major currencies – including USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, CNY, INR, IDR and BRL – using the daily reference rates published by the European Central Bank. The result shows the exchange rate in both directions and the date the rate was published.

How to use Currency Converter

  1. Enter the Amount.
  2. Choose the From and To currencies, or swap them with ⇄.
  3. Read the converted amount, the rate line and the ECB publication date.
  4. If rates cannot be loaded, check your connection and press Retry.

Example

Input
100 USD → EUR
Output
€89.02 (1 USD = 0.89015 EUR, ECB reference rate published on October 21, 2026)

Rates change every working day; your result will use the latest published rate.

When to use Currency Converter

Use it for estimates: travel budgets, price comparisons, invoices in another currency. The ECB rates are mid-market reference rates, not the rates your bank or card provider charges, and they are not intraday market prices. Currencies outside the ECB list (for example VND) are not available.

How Currency Converter works

When you choose the source currency, the page requests the latest rates for that base currency from the Frankfurter API (api.frankfurter.dev), a free, CORS-enabled service that republishes the ECB reference rates. Only the three-letter base currency code is sent; the amount never leaves your browser. The conversion is amount × rate, displayed with Intl currency formatting and the currency's normal number of decimals (0 for JPY, ISK and KRW). The ECB publishes rates on working days around 16:00 CET, so weekend results show Friday's rate.

Common Use Cases

  • Estimate a hotel price abroad in your home currency
  • Compare software prices quoted in USD and EUR
  • Convert an invoice amount using the official ECB reference rate
  • Check how much a salary offer is worth in another currency

Security Note

This tool contacts api.frankfurter.dev to fetch exchange rates. The request contains only the selected base currency code – never the amount you type.

FAQs

Where do the rates come from?

From the European Central Bank's daily euro foreign exchange reference rates, served by the open-source Frankfurter API.

Is my amount sent anywhere?

No. Only the base currency code (for example USD) is requested; the multiplication happens in your browser.

Why is the rate different from my bank?

Banks and card networks add a margin and use their own intraday rates. The ECB rate is a neutral mid-market reference.

Why is my currency missing?

The ECB only publishes about 30 currencies. Others cannot be converted with this data source.
